David McClelland and Social Media

Who would have thought, that David McClelland, back in 1961 came up with his Theory of Needs (based on Murray’s theory of motivation, 1938) and we see that one of his classifications (Affiliation) suits Social Media. Whilst mostly used for management purposes we can think of different benefits derived from these psychological reasons of users joining several social media networks and groups.

“Those with a high need for affiliation need harmonious relationships with other people and need to feel accepted by other people. They tend to conform to the norms of their work group. High nAff individuals prefer work that provides significant personal interaction. They enjoy being part of groups and when not anxious make excellent team members, though sometimes are distractible into social interaction. They can perform well in customer service and client interaction situations.”

Does this model apply to our current web 2.0 generation? What do you think?

Going Barcelona

When things are getting tough for you then it’s time for you to consider some GTD practices. Maybe I will, …someday.
Although I’ve been spending most of my free time finishing up those final courses on university, as well as my current project at TNO in time for my graduation period, I have been looking on the bright side of things.
…Say farewell Holland, and hola EspaÃ±a. I will be spending time on my final thesis in Barcelona, at Onetomarket SL. Doing research on Mobile Marketing opportunities, right at the same moment, the Mobile World Congress is about to start. It is still yet undecided if I will be attending the congress itself, but some side-events are already in my agenda! Like mobilesundaybarcelona. Might be picking up some topics while I’m at it and add it to my greater knowledge. Blend it with stuff I already learned on context-awareness and personal networks during my internship at TNO and things should turn out me being the fairy you can’t put away in the jar.
I’ll be heading off to Barcelona next Thursday, 31st of January. One minor disappointment; I still need an apartment!

I will be keeping you guys updated and as you might have already noticed.., in English!

Auto wassen

Nu ik toch al enige tijd in het bezit ben van een autootje komt toch ook Ã©cht de tijd dat die eens schoongemaakt moest worden. Met de herfst en de vallende bladeren en vooral vervelende vogels die je auto aan het stucadoren zijn werd het alleen maar dringender. Gelukkig kent Zwolle een aardige oplossing, Bas autowas! zo de auto parkeren (in zijn vrij natuurlijk) in de wasstraat en hij komt weer glimmend te voorschijn! Beste uitvinding vind ik zelf! Ik mag me nu officieel weer op de weg begeven, het rijdt dus ook een stukje veiliger nu.
